Buying an RV is exciting. Often the feelings of all the fun you and your family will have with your new vehicle make it hard to concentrate on some of the crucial choices you have to make concerning the type of RV that is reasonable for you. There are several differences in the many styles of RV but two really big differences that should be considered is whether you want a gasoline powered RV or a diesel powered RV.

There are points about both that people who choose them love and what is right for you is a personal assessment, but not one that should be made lightly. There are some myths surrounding the different types of fuel systems, such as the one that proclaims diesel to be a cheaper fuel. At some times it is cheaper than regular gasoline, and at other times it is really more expensive. Diesel, like gasoline, is subject to the same types of marketplace fluctuations and reasons for cost inflation. However, where diesel can achieve some points in the cost comparison is in the total used. Diesel is a denser fuel and not as much is required to travel the same distance as gas.

Availability may be a factor for you and should be measured. In some areas it is difficult to find diesel fuel. If you live near a highway or route heavily trafficked by large trucks you are more likely going to have diesel available locally than if you live in areas removed from that type of traffic. Another myth is that diesel engines last longer and start more reliably than gasoline engines. This is true in most cases. Diesel engines tend to last longer than gasoline engines.

Strength vs. speed: Diesels tend to be the powerhouses to the gasoline engine's speedster. If you are pulling a big load a diesel engine has more torque and will get it moving more rapidly with less wear than a gasoline engine. However, today's RVs are equipped with gasoline or diesel engines that are well adapted to hauling the load of the vehicle and usually a tow-along as well. A gasoline engine may be a better choice if you plan on doing a lot of local road driving vs. highway driving where the ability to start quickly from a stop is more important.

Gasoline powered RVs will probably be slightly more cost efficient at the initial purchase since diesel engines tend to be more expensive than gasoline engines. Those who love diesel consider it a fair trade for the longer lasting engine. Diesel engines are also a little louder, even with recent technology than gasoline engines, but when running at an efficient speed on the highway the difference will be negligible.

by Bob Baxter

Looking back in history we see that RV camping has been something enjoyed by many people for a great many years. It is a great way for a family to spend some great quality time together having fun. The memories and stories of these camping trips will be told for years to come.

Some people consider the pioneers to be the first actual RVers that existed. It is hard to say as it has been going on for such a long time. Back then it was not the fun that it is now. They were on a very different mission than the people that go RV camping these days. There was no time for them to have fun.

The enjoyment that families have together now on their own or as part of a group has helped to instill some of the traditional values that many thought had been lost. Families seem to share a lot more bonding when they get away from the hustle and bustle of day to day life.

To enjoy an RV camping trip the first thing a person needs is an RV. There are many different types that a person can choose from, and it can be affordable if you take the time to look around. If you are handy at fixing things you may find one that just needs a bit of work.

After the trailer has been bought the only real cost associated with RV camping is that of the site that you will stay at. These can fluctuate depending on location and what you want in the site. Sites that provide hydro cost more than ones that don't. Looking into the options that are around before making a decision can help you ensure that the site you choose will make you happy during your stay.

If you are a true camper you may choose to do it the old fashioned way. This means that you will want a campsite without the luxury of hydro. There are still a lot of people that are doing this nowadays, believe it or not. They find it a way to get back to reality and in touch with nature and the things immediately around them. There are still a lot that can be enjoyed even without hydro. Think of the fishing and cooking over an open campfire and the fun that can be had.

No matter where you live there are a ton of campsites around. The US and Canada have some of the most beautiful ones that a person can see. Many of them offer additional services for families that go RV camping. Whether the beach is what you are after or if you want access to a boat for fishing, there are so many choices that are around that you will find something that will meet your needs and your budget as well. A lot of these campgrounds have things for kids to enjoy, or they host special events on holidays as well.

Using the internet can help you make the proper choice for your family's RV camping trip. They have pictures that illustrate the look of the sites; they will give detailed lists of what services and extras that they offer as well. Once you find what you are after you can make all the arrangements that you need quickly and easily. Just make sure that you print your confirmation. This can save a hassle that could occur down the road.

by Bart Kane

Big Bear Lake, California is a beautiful place to buy a home. If you're looking at Big Bear homes, buying a bank-owned home can be a great buy for many reasons. The low price being the most obvious. However, like everything else, there are drawbacks even among the many wonderful Big Bear homes.

Banks do not have complete records of the homes history. Therefore, they are immune from disclosure rules. They do not have to deliver buyers historical information about these Big Bear homes. The house could have mold or water-warped floors, but the bank has no responsibility to inform the buyer because more than likely they are unaware of these problems.

So if you are interested in one of these Big Bear homes, you definitely need a professional home inspector. It is vital to making a good purchase that you have your home inspector thoroughly examine every part of the home, perhaps more than other conventionally sold properties.

The home inspector is the guy that will be able to tell you if the electrical work done to your house is up to code or if there are improperly installed wires that could be a fire hazard. The home inspector will be able to tell you if it looks like the roof is leaking in numerous places and in need of repair. The home inspectors I recommend will even check the temperature of the oven to make sure it is operating properly.

With all the tempting Big Bear homes available, as with any California homes for sale, it is a smart idea to spend a few hundred dollars on a thorough inspection before you commit to a purchase that is a few hundred thousand dollars.

You want to do your due diligence form the start. Whether the home is new construction or older, inspect it thoroughly. Even new builders can produce poor quality buildings. So research well and stay ahead of the game.

Whether you are running a Featherlite or a Fleetwood, if you're spending serious time on the road then you probably want to take as many of the comforts of home with you as you can. No matter how big your rig is you'll never find room for those photo albums or boxes of photos you have stored in the closet. And even if you had room you probably shouldn't expose your photos to the additional risks that traveling presents.

By having your photos scanned you can take a complete set of your photographs with you anywhere you go. A life time of photos can easily be stored on a DVD or two. You can accomplish this by purchasing a scanner and doing it yourself or by sending your photos to a photo scanning service. Don't pay too much. Great photo scanning can cost as little as 5 cents per photo.

Aside from making your photos portable, photo scanning stops them from everyday deterioration and aging. Making several complete copies of your images and storing them in different places insures that they are never lost or destroyed by natural causes. And scanning makes it easy to share complete copies with each family member.

Looking for something to do on those evenings "on the road"? Scanning our photos makes it possible to build a slideshow that you can watch on TV. Software like Pro Show Gold by Photodex makes it easy to add text to your images, and add your favorite music. If you don't feel that talented, there are many services that will create a slideshow for you to meet your needs.

You might consider displaying your photos on a digital picture frame. Recently digital frames have come down a lot in price. There are some rather nice picture frames for $100 or so that will allow you to display your photos as a slideshow, and even play music. And memory cards are so inexpensive that you can store your entire photo collection on them for a few dollars. If you are traveling to visit family or going to meet new friends having your photos on a digital picture frame will be a treat.

You don't need another half done project lying around the house, so strongly consider using one of the professional photo scanning services you can find online to scan your photos. Scanning more than a few photos can bore you to tears. "Photo Scanning Tips" by this author may be helpful if you need to know more about scanning resolutions and additional services offered by photo scanners. Shop wisely, and don't pay too much. You can find excellent photo scanning for as little as a nickel per photo.

Having your photographs scanned is just another feather in your cap. Not only do you have that little extra piece of home permanently with you, but you have the satisfaction of knowing that the historic record of your family's images are permanently protected from aging, decay, and disaster. Another advantage is that you'll be able to easily add the digital photos you are taking now to you photo collection and not have them in two different formats. Digitizing your photos makes them easy to store and reproduce. Viewing them on a TV or a digital picture frame can be fantastic. Happy Trails!

Its not always that easy to understand caravan insurance, if you ever had to claim you may find yourself out of pocket if you do not take the right type of cover, or even enough cover. A caravan is a big investment and should be thought of that way when you come to insure or renew your caravan insurance. At the time of purchase, be very clear on your needs, what cover you need and how much you want to pay.

If you own a touring caravan, your insurance needs may be totally different to if you were renting out a static caravan on site. You can insure your caravan fully comprehensive, or you can choose to go with just third part fire and theft. Whatever you do, do not buy caravan insurance just on price there is a huge void between best, and cheapest, coverage is more important.

Being vacant for at least some of the year, a static caravan should be covered for both break-in and of course vandalism. Installing good window and door locks, a good alarm system and a few smoke alarms will help to pair down the cost of your insurance. Storing a static caravan at a secure site is a very good idea both for security risks and for reducing your premiums.

If you have a touring caravan and take it to Europe you will need to ensure you have cover to do so, to ensure no nasty shocks. Many insurance policies provide cover for taking the caravan to Europe, normally for a certain amount of days, though some don't. Mainland Europe is a popular – and excellent – place for caravanners to go touring with their caravan, but you need to do it right.

It is vital that you take out your magnifying glass and read the fine detail of any caravan insurance policy before you take it out, you dont want any surprises later on. There are different limits to paying out on items and they vary between providers quite a bit, make sure you have decent coverage. Shop around and compare what each company provides, as with anything it pays to look around beforehand.

In these testing economic times, caravan holidays are becoming an ever popular way of getting a value for holiday. Younger families are uncovering the fun (and savings) that a caravan holiday can provide. Caravans are now the king of holidays, replacing Spain as the top holiday spot for us Brits.
