<p>Ernie Blyfield opened the Pump Room in the Ambassador East Hotel in late&#039;38. He took the name from an 18th century London pub favored by celebrities and nobility, including Queen Anne. The original pub got its name from the hot drinks pumped into the cocktails of its stylish clientele.</p>
<p>The Chicago Pump Room was a smashing success from the time it opened. It&#039;s most desired table reserved for &#039;A list&#039; celebrities was Booth #1, which for a time may have been the most sought after table at any dining establishment in the country. Booth #1 at various times hosted Frank Sinatra and his associates, Bogart and Bacall, Judy Garland and daughter Liza Minnelli, John Barrymore and countless others.</p>
<p>Blyfield died in&#039;50, but the Pump Room remained a Chicago hot spot and hosted a new era of superstars including Mel Brooks, Beverly Sills, Paul Newman, Robert Redford. More recently, Michael J. Fox, Eddie Murphy and Mick Jagger have made appearances. A funny story involves former Genesis drummer Phil Collins, who was refused entry for not wearing a jacket. The incident was commemorated in the title of his next solo album No Jacket Required which has since sold over&#8211; million copies worldwide and launched Collins into solo superstardom. Following its release, the Pump Room sent Collins an apology&#034;and an appropriate jacket so that the incident wouldnt be repeated.</p>
<p>The Pump Room was purchased by a large restaurant management group in the late&#039;90&#039;s. They spent a lot of money to renovate the facility, overhaul the menu and hire a top flight chef. While the Pump Room&#039;s golden era trade mark flaming food served on a sword was a tragedy of city fire codes, the menu is now on par with any in the city serving a sophisticated interpretation of classic American cuisine. In addition to the revamped cuisine, the Pump Room upgraded its wine offering and expanded the bar area.</p>
<p>Current Executive Chef Nick Sutton has continued the restaurant&#039;s tradition of excellence. The big draw of the Pump Room, however, remains the amazing sense of history that the dining room offers. The realization that a who&#039;s who of civilized American culture from Bogart and Clark Gable to Sinatra and Jackie Gleason broke bread in the room is a pretty amazing vibe. The good news is that the Pump Room again offers the quality of food and service worthy of such icons, and is a victory for culinary excellence amid the national infestation of mediocre chain restaurants.</p>

<p>Why is it important to include Whey Protein in my diet? * Whey Protein has a high BV (biological value). This means a large percentage of the actual protein is absorbed into the body when compared with other protein foods. * All 9 EAAs (essential amino acids) are included within whey protein. * High amounts of the 3 BCAAs (branched chain amino acids) &#8211; isoleucine, valine, and leucine are present in whey protein. All of which, are essential for repairing and growing the muscle.</p>
<p>How fast is the protein absorbed into the body? Absorption and digestion of whey protein tends to be very quick due to the shorter chain amino acids. This is considered to be advantageous, post-workout for example, as protein will be in high demand by the body. The absorption rates for the different types of protein supplements vary. The approx. timings are as follows: WPH: 15mins, WPI: 30mins, WPC: 1hour</p>
<p>What are the different types of whey protein you can purchase? Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC): The filtration process used in the production of whey protein is called ultra-filtration. The protein is processed by separating the lactose and fat in milk through a porous membrane. The most popular WPC on the market is typically 68-80% protein. As WPC is less processed that other proteins, this is not the purest whey protein, however it is still a very high quality protein powder. The rest of the product is made up of a little fat and carbohydrate. This powder is normally perfectly adequate for the normal trainer. As WPC has had less processing it generally means that it is cheaper to buy than whey protein isolate or hydrolysate.</p>
<p>WPI (Whey Protein Isolate): This type of whey protein has had even more processing and filtering than WPC. The result is a purer high protein content. WPI is usually around 85-95% protein &#8211; those following a strict diet that are wanting to keep fat/carb levels to a minimum will often choose this type of powder. WPI can also be useful for those that are severe lactose intolerance as it contains significantly less lactose than Whey Concentrate.</p>
<p>WPH (Whey Protein Hydrolysate): When Whey Concentrate or Isolate go through a hydrolysis process, Whey Protein Hydrolysate is produced. When the longer protein chains present in Whey Protein are broken down, smaller peptides are produced . Whey protein already has short peptides, but the hydrolysis process makes them even shorter. The manufacturers call this &#039;pre-digesting&#039; the protein before consumption. Having the protein this way makes it easier on the digestive system, it is absorbed into the body at a quicker rate. Whey Protein Hydrolysate comes at a cost and will be more expensive than the previous two proteins but it is often described as the best post-workout protein a bodybuilder can take. The reason for this is that the body absorbs it very quickly &#8211; perfect for post-workout when the body is crying out for protein. It&#039;s rapid absorption rate is due to it having been more digested than the other whey proteins.</p>
<p>Which Protein Powder should I choose? There are many different types of proteins available in health food shops and on the internet, it can often be confusing for the consumer of which to buy. The individual needs to consider what aspects are most important to them. Normally price is the deciding factor. If price is a big factor for you then the obvious choice is WPC, it is the cheapest and still does a very good job.</p>
