Why Loved Saturdays Was Because Of Saturday Cartoons
There are plenty of reasons that many youngsters love Saturdays. Children love Saturdays since it means they do not have to get up early and go to school. Youngsters love Saturdays simply because they usually get to relax or play with friends. Kids love Saturdays because it means they got to remain up late on Friday night. Nonetheless as a kid I loved Saturdays for a totally different motive: Saturday toons.
One of the highlights of my childhood was watching Saturday morning cartoons. My own siblings and I anticipated Saturday all week long. We made it through five long days of school, homework, going to bed early, and eating a healthy diet of breakfast foods to get to the next Saturday. Despite the fact that the wait for Saturday felt like forever, eventually it always came. With it came our special Saturday routine.
Despite the fact that Saturday may be the perfect day to sleep in, we usually woke up just as soon as we did for school, and we didn't even need an alarm clocks! Whoever woke up first would run to awaken all the others and together we would go quickly to the living room and turn on the television and flip to our favorite channel: the one with the best Saturday cartoons.
Oh yea, we loved our cartoons. We kept track of that which was happening in most our favorite cartoons and then we waited with anticipation for the following episode. We were glued to the television with eyes so huge we did not miss anything. We would laugh outloud, talk to the cartoon characters outloud, and even get mad at the television outloud anytime the cartoons didn't go like we thought they ought to. We were so into the most popular cartoons that just one thing could pull us away from the TV. That would be Dad's hot cakes.
Father's special, Saturday-only pancakes were incredible. We were able to eat as much as we wanted and then we could put anything in them we wanted: blueberries, choc chips as well as M&M's. We looked forward to Dad's pancakes almost as much as we anticipated watching our favorite cartoons. Our own parents even started letting us eat our pancakes while watching television so we'd not need to miss a cartoon! Such a deal! Saturday was the only day the good cartoons were on, it was the only day that Dad made his signature, unhealthy pancakes, and it had been definitely the only real day we could eat while watching television in the living room.
So while I liked not having to go to school on Saturdays and I loved having the ability to have fun with friends and stay up later, the actual reason I loved Saturdays wasn't even my Dad's great pancakes. The actual reason, the greatest reason that I grew up loving Saturdays was simple: Saturday cartoons.
