What You Don't Need To Know About Your Caravan Antenna
I won't complain. While writing this, we are sitting in Wellington, NSW, on our way to a caravan and camping show at Dubbo this weekend. It's pouring rain. This can be a bit miserable for us travellers. For the farmers, this is 'pennies from heaven'.
While writing this, we are sitting in Wellington, NSW, on our way to a show at Dubbo this weekend. It's raining. For the traveller, this can be a bit miserable. For the farmers, this is 'pennies from heaven'. So I won't complain. We can still turn on the tele for some entertainment…..mmmmm…..look at that….all the houses here in Wellington have 2 aerials on the roof. The TV reception here is coming from Mt Canobolas, near Orange. AND it is ideal for the Saturn Antenna – 2 channels on the vertical and 3 channels on the horizontal.
I may sound like I'm talking 'double-dutch'. Sorry. I am NOT going to use technical jargon so all you 'techos' out there, don't call me to tell me I'm incorrect; I am just going to explain the TV reception in simple, layman's terms. Let me explain.
In Australia, there are two ways that TV reception is transmitted – horizontal and vertical patterns. No, they don't do that just to watch the travellers stand outside their campervans and RV's getting cranky turning their antennas up and down, this way and that (although, it may seem like that). There are two reasons for the way TV reception is broadcast. 1. For the transmitters that need to cover a larger geography, the VHF frequency transmitted on the vertical plane travels further distances with decreased loss of picture quality. So the transmitters at Coonabarabran, Bundaberg, Orange, Canberra, Shepparton and many more have vertical PLUS horizontal transmission.
To avoid interference with transmission from another close tower is the second reason that the vertical plane is used for TV transmission e.g. the transmitter for Noosa/Tewantin in Queensland sends its reception on the vertical so that it would not clash with the transmission from the Sunshine Coast transmitter.
Saturn Antenna has 2 aerials and THAT'S why! One on the horizontal and one on the vertical is how it is set up for ALL our transmitters. Whether the reception is sent vertically or horizontally, with a Saturn Antenna YOU DON'T NEED TO KNOW – just put the antenna up, plug in your cable, press auto tune on your TV AND IT'S DONE!
