Class A RV Sales Continue To Increase
Class A RVs are taking hold of the market. While numbers for RV sales dropped significantly during the recession, January turned a corner. More and more consumers are heading to an RV dealer to buy a new or used Class A RV, or travel trailer. The RV industry is watched as an indicator to the overall economic health of the country. So far this year, it's showing only positive growth.
RV sales aren't the only indicator that the worst is past. RV shows have consistently reported an upsurge in traffic and sales since the beginning of the year. Initially, the most popular item this year seemed to be the lightweight travel trailer and pop-up camper. People wanted to get out and travel but in with more economical transportation. Class A sales also started to pickup, but the trend has been more impressive than expected.
RVIA's Richard Curtain reports Class A motorhomes will likely jump 90% in 2010 over 2009 with a continued increase in sales into 2011 although not at the same rates. Throughout the country sales tripled during the month of June, seeing 27,000 units selling. This the best sales record for Class A RVs in the past two years.
The Monaco line of Class A RVs has been really popular this year. Consumers are looking for quality and luxury and Monaco delivers both of those. Other popular manufacturers include Newmar and Forest River. Their brands offer all you could want in a home away from home. Some amenities include leather couches, leather driver and passenger seats, 26" LCD TVs, cherry wood cabinetry, tile floors and more. At this level, there's nothing you could want that you can't have.
The other big seller this year is the lightweight travel trailer. This follows the trend of people staying closer to home and spending less. Some travel trailers and pop-up campers can be pulled behind mid-size vehicles giving more people access to the RV lifestyle. The lighter the weight and the more aerodynamic the vehicle the better fuel efficiency it will have.
If it seems like it's all or nothing with RV sales, that's partially true. When people are concerned with money, they invest in safe items, such as real estate or bonds. Since RVs depreciate in value like any car, they aren't the first choice for an investment in a recession. However, when people are more confident, they resume travel plans and for some, traveling by Class A RV is the only way to go.
The trend of increased sales across both markets show the economy as a whole is getting stronger day by day, month by month.
Because vacations are necessary for relaxation and regrouping, it's important to get out there whether it's for a day trip or a weeklong vacation. We all need a break from our jobs at some point.
Class A RVs and lightweight travel trailers are stealing consumer's interest this year. While next year numbers are expected to even out with a slight increase, those looking to buy an RV should know now is a great time to make the investment. Owning an RV will allow you to get out on the road and experience the natural and local attractions around you.
