Timeshare Preview Explained In Full
A form is filled out to enter a free getaway. The following week the phone rings and somebody is calling you about a timeshare preview. The sales person calling is enthusiastic, positive, and very persuasive. The following month or so, there is a 90 minute discussion about timeshares.
Do not let the sales people pull the wool over your eyes. They are trained to be persuasive. When you are with them it is very difficult to say no. What they do not disclose, or they do it in a roundabout way, are all the fees that are involved in timeshare owner ship. First of all there are all the fee's you have to pay up front to purchase of the timeshare. The purchases are made for either one week, two weeks, or the point system. Another fee is the maintenance fees, which have to be paid every year. A third fee, this is optional, is to belong to an exchange company.
An exchange company basically lets a timeshare owner exchange their week for another week, or at a different timeshare. There is a yearly fee to belong to an exchange company, plus you have to pay an exchange fee. So basically if a timeshare owner wants to stay somewhere other than their week, a hefty fee has to be paid.
Continuing on with a timeshare preview, timeshares are nearly impossible to sell. Most companies that offer to sell a timeshare charge extraordinary fees to do so. A timeshare can be deeded, but then the heir will be stuck with all the fees. If a timeshare owner is desperate to rid themselves of this burden, they can always try to donate their timeshare.
Avoiding this stress is easy. Just do not buy a timeshare. If you still want to vacation at luxury resorts without paying all sorts of fees, you can just join a vacation club.
