Keeping the kids entertained on long road trips can often prove to be a challenge. These days children are not satisfied simply reading a book or counting things they see from their window. Technology has become such a regular part of the lives of children so why not make gaming technology a part of the road trip? Many children believe this is an excellent way to pass the time and you'll enjoy the peace that comes with entertained children.

One of the coolest gaming interfaces coming out is Project Cobra. Project Cobra was designed by Zi Ye and Hammad Khalid in the Human Media Lab at Queen's University in Canada. The concept is taking games and projecting them onto a board that twists and bends. Attached sensors feed back into the laptop. Placing pressure on the board helps control the game, says Paul Ridden in his piece Gaming Flexibility Takes on New Twist with Project Cobra. The idea behind the design is to engage people physically with the software.

The gamer is able to place the computer in a bag that hangs on the shoulders. The strap features an attached projector with additional sensors that run from the laptop to the gaming board. In his article Gaming Flexibility Takes on New Twist with Project Cobra, Ridden also mentions that bending a corner of the board in one direction could, for instance, power a sword up for fighting. Releasing the corner or bending it back could then bring down the sword with force against an opponent.

Another option is letting the kids play with the new iPad. It's the perfect size to be transported and can be maneuvered to work with games. As a newcomer to the gaming world, iPad apps are still working out a few kinks as far as user friendliness. However, a few games are already becoming hits: Strategery and Civilization Revolution work perfectly with the interface.

In his article; Gaming on the iPad: What works, What doesn't, Chris Holt stated "The former a hybrid game, the latter an iPad-optimized title–play much better on the iPad because its larger screen reveals more of the battlefield while still offering a simple touch mechanism for ordering around your units." Holt also recommends driving games such as Need for Speed and Real Racing.

Noise is always a big factor when taking a road trip in a diesel pusher. Whether it is the sound of the vehicle itself or the noise from the divices being used to pass the time, noise can lead to contention. To combat noise contention the Psyko 5.1 gaming headset delivers 5.1 surround sound and peace to all those not using the headset. The Psyko 5.1 headset features 5 speakers that fit nicely into the bridge of the headset. Each ear cup features a subwoofer. Whether you are listening to the sound from a game or the music of a live rock show, both kids and adults will feel like they are smack dab in the center of the action.

Within the next year Nintendo plans on releasing the 3DS, a console that will provide 3D entertainment without the use of glasses. While it is true that this technology already exists, it has not yet been applied to gaming and gaming technology.

Let somebody else's kids do the complaining. Set your kids up with some of the most advanced and exciting gaming technology available. Then watch mile after mile pass in peace and quiet!
