World renown tire and rubber company Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, well known for tires such as the Goodyear Fortera SilentArmor tires, actually considers "13" to be a lucky number for them. In 1898, American inventor Frank Seiberling founded the company. When their first manufacturing plant opened in Akron, Ohio, the staff was comprised of 13 employees who each played a major role in Goodyear's original products: rubber horseshoe pads, poker chips, and bicycle and carriage tires.

The famous creator of vulcanized rubber in 1839 was Charles Goodyear, however he was not ever associated with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company or anyone who worked there. In consideration of the advancements which he made to the automobile and rubber industry, it was disclosed that the firm Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company was named to honor Mr. Charles Goodyear by Mr. Seiberling, the founder and principal owner.

At that point, everyone in the automobile industry regarded Goodyear as having the finest-quality and most efficient brand of racing tire available. Goodyear tires continued to gain in popularity, which led to even further expansion of the company and its reputation.

Goodyear developed into a multinational corporation, and then branched out into other areas of business. The company opened a nuclear processing facility in Ohio in 1956. In the 1970s, the Goodyear Aerospace Corporation was formed and later became the Goodyear Aircraft Company, which specialized in the design and manufacturing of various types of aircraft, including the famed space shuttle. Like any company seeking healthy expansion, Goodyear devoted a huge amount of time and money to making-over the original facility in Akron to be a research and design technical center for the company.

The Goodyear Company has made many discoveries, innovations and victories throughout the ensuing years. Having diversified into a number of fields that were both important and financially rewarding, this global firm has become an international conglomerate.
