Cabo San Lucas in the Past
Mexico's world-class tourist destination, Cabo San Lucas, was said to be a pirates' haven some thousand years ago.
In the early 1900s, small groups of fishers come to Cabo to fish. Later on, groups of Americans come to the place and put up a fishing platform, until years later, a company named Compania de Productos Marinos was built in the place. This has led to the increase in the number of people living in Cabo San Lucas.
Although the place became inhabited by fishers when the company was put up, there were still a relatively few of them even after the place started to be known for sport fishing way back in the 1930s. It was not very accessible then, as it can only be reached by small planes and yachts, or through a very long dirt road drive.
After the war, the place has become known among the elites of Southern California, and it was in 1950 that the celebrity Bing Crosby and his friends put up the first and exclusive hotel in Cabo. This has led to more and more developments happening in Cabo San Lucas.
The place became known for the fishing tournaments held there, and this started to make the place popular. Many developers, and the government as well, started to pour in their resources to Cabo San Lucas, and road projects were started.
It was followed not long after by an international airport located in the nearby San Jose del Cabo. This also made the place more accessible to more and more tourists and visitors.
With the opening of this accessible transportation, luxurious hotels, first-class restaurants and bars emerged in the area and it boomed into a place for relaxation and leisure. Sammy Hagar, a Van Halen band member, also put up his bar and restaurant called Cabo Wabo Cantina, which also became a favorite hangout of tourists even up to the present.
Today, people continue to flock in Cabo but not just only for the fishing tournaments but for its beautiful beaches, world-class golf courses, water sports and activities and the long list of fun and exciting activities you can do in Cabo San Lucas. It has also become not only as a popular place for your grand vacation ever but for your honeymoon getaway as well.
