Basic Information on Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas, or simply 'Cabo' or 'Los Cabos,' is a Mexican city located at the southern tip of the Baja peninsula. It is home to 60,000 people, and it is fast growing as the country's premier vacation destination.

It boasts of gorgeous beaches, luxurious hotels, championship golf courses, fantastic restaurants, shopping centers and even discos and bars. Cabo San Lucas if famous, among others, for the rock formation called "El Arco" or The Arch.

However, it is more popular due to its excellent marine life that can be found in its beaches and more particularly due to the great sports fishing it allows sports anglers to have. It has the biggest marlin tournament in the world. Los Cabos is not called the World Marlin Capital for nothing.

Peso is the city's national currency. If you are a tourist visiting Cabo San Lucas, it will delight you to know that the city provides ATM machines that accept foreign credit or debit cards. It also dispenses dollar or peso depending on your need.

If you wish to exchange your currency to pesos, moneychangers are widely available in Cabo. However, some banks in Cabo do not exchange dollars, so it is wise to ask before doing any transactions. You can however pay in dollars in most establishments but you should be aware that change would be in pesos. Credit cards and traveler's checks can also be used in Cabo but always ask if the establishment accepts them as payment.

Business hours in Cabo starts from 9:00 a.m. and usually closes at 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. If you are bringing along your laptops and other electronic gadgets, you don't actually need adaptors in Cabo because they operate at 110 volts like in the U.S.

You may already have seen Cabo San Lucas. This is the place where the Laguna Beach stars had their spring break in the show and some scenes in the movie Troy were taken in the beaches of Cabo.

Hollywood stars have also discovered Cabo as a good place to relax. Among those seen in Cabo are Britney Spears, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jessica Alba, Reese Witherspoon and so many others.
